This lecture explores the work of Australian impressionists depicting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It considers how such imagery relates to the nationalist narrative of Australian art in the years leading up to Federation, and how it intersects more broadly with representations of race within an international impressionist framework.
