The Masterclass Workshops Series provides an exciting opportunity to learn about the creative processes of past winners and finalists of the prestigious Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prize. Designed for the more experienced artist, these workshops will enable you to further develop your skills, experiment and gain valuable insights from these highly regarded and talented artists.
These workshops are suitable for people with drawing and painting experience, wishing to extend their skills and practice.
Join Archibald finalist Mirra Whale for this engaging portrait painting workshop. Drawing upon the traditional Dutch Master’s technique of painting tones and highlights over a coloured ground, Mirra will teach students methods to emulate Dutch Still life painting techniques whilst adapting techniques for a foundation portrait. Starting on a coloured ground, this technique provides economy, mood and efficiency, and can be applied to both still life and portraiture. Similar to a grisaille painting technique, students will use a limited palette to build a strong rendered underpainting.
Light lunch included.
