Discover love and death in the life and art of Eugene von Guérard presented by Dr Ruth Pullin now available as an online lecture.
The shadow of death hung heavily over the von Guérard household during Eugene’s childhood in Vienna. From the depths of tragedy, the seeds for a brilliant career were sown as, nurtured by the deep emotional bond he shared with his artist-father, the boy painted in the Roman campagna, sketched under Neapolitan skies and met the leading landscape painters of the day. His life, and his career as one of Australia’s greatest landscape painters, was profoundly shaped by death, and by love.
