For this workshop Abdul Abdullah will introduce his personal methods for constructing a portrait. Using images of his own work, these steps will include drawing techniques that consider proportion, finding the right angles and tonal comparisons. He will introduce drawing-for-painting, drawing-for-drawing and the top-down approach. Abdul will explain his process of palette preparation and colour mixing and matching, before demonstrating his paint application techniques.
Abdul works across all mediums and is primarily interested in the human experience in a contemporary, multicultural Australian context. Abdul is a five-time Archibald Prize finalist, a five-time Sulman Prize finalist and a Wynne Prize finalist.
