Enjoy an evening with Alfred Lord Tennyson’s epic poem 'Enoch Arden', set to music by German composer Richard Strauss. Published in 1864 when Tennyson was England’s poet laureate, 'Enoch Arden' is the story of a shipwrecked sailor who finds his way home after 10 years only to discover his beloved wife has married his best friend. Richard Strauss composed a score for the poem in 1897 and it was one of the composer’s biggest hits to date.
Join Australian theatre icon, John Bell AO OBE, as narrator, and internationally acclaimed pianist Simon Tedeschi as they revive the art of the melodrama, with its fundamental meeting of word and music, and bring their undisputed magic to this tragic, yet uplifting story of love, loss and sacrifice.
