Art for starters 2019: 20th century – modernity and beyond & ways of looking at art

Saturday, 24 August 2019 2.00pm to Saturday, 24 August 2019 4.30pm

Program: Art for starters 2019
Venue: Centenary Auditorium
Lecturer: Liz Gibson

The revolutionary fervour of the 19th century spilled over into the 20th century. Coupled with giant leaps in technology, it paved the way for some of the most radical changes ever witnessed in the way art was created and viewed. As the pace of life sped-up in the 20th century, so did the birth of new art styles, and a proliferation of new media. Discover the meaning of art terms like cubism, expressionism, surrealism, pop art and conceptual art. Conclude the series with a focus on ways of looking at art.
