Art Appreciation 2022 - Pomp and Ceremony

This lecture explores the practice of artist Michael Zavros and his continuing investigation into consumerist culture. Zavros’ paintings depict scenes and symbols of pomp and ceremony that are often associated with the tradition of history painting and yet they offer us multiple insights into contemporary life. Examine how his impeccable attention to detail, technical skill and wry sense of humour have branded him one of Australia’s most significant and intriguing artists.  

Susi Muddiman OAM, is the Director of the Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre in Murwillumbah, NSW and has been the Director of three of the state’s leading regional galleries
