Saturday, 11 August 2018 12.30pm to Saturday, 11 August 2018 2.30pm

Venue: Centenary Auditorium
Lecturer: Alan Dodge

Alan Dodge, former director of the Art Gallery of Western Australia, will share his passion and deep knowledge of Russia, with a focus on Russian art and culture of the late 19th and early 20th century, as a reflection of the dramatic shifts that occurred in politics and society. Discover how artists, musicians and writers broke with tradition and searched for a uniquely Russian expression of these turbulent times. Alan will consider composers such as Modest Mussorgsky, one of the 'mighty handful', Ilya Repin and other artists in the 'Wanderers' group as well as artists of the Russian Avant-garde, such as Kasimir Malevich.
