Start with a demonstration of the eight basic strokes in a variety of characters. Observe how they change according to their surroundings, and how this affects the work’s rhythm and balance. You will be guided to improve your brush control over different pressures, thicknesses and shapes. Then, you will learn variations of the horizontal stroke’s length and taper, and apply them to two characters – upright and king.
Beginners will be introduced to the history, tools and strokes of Chinese calligraphy. You will be guided to hold the brush correctly and learn three basic strokes – dot, horizontal and vertical, and use them to write the character for jade.
