Many of the great names of modern art worked in the South of France - Picasso, Leger, Matisse, Renoir, Chagall, Bonnard, Van Gogh, Cezanne. Everywhere you look, there are places that have been painted by these artists, and a plethora of museums and studios. Many were attracted to the sparkling water and scenic villages with its relaxed and informal atmosphere. A sense of art community drew more artists into the area.
