Calligraphy is traditionally said to be like meditation, quieting the heart and calming the mind by moving its Qi or energy in rhythm with the movement of the brush. Modern master, Xueyi Bai will teach you how to use the special tools of Chinese calligraphy: a soft Chinese brush, rice paper, ink stick and ink stone, to create delicate strokes and harmonious Chinese characters.

You will learn the basic movements of dots and strokes on rice paper, and will ultimately be guided to arrange these strokes into balanced, elegant characters. At the end of the course, you will have meaningful works of your own to take home and the technique and appreciation to make Chinese calligraphy an everyday skill that is a pleasure to perform, and delight to view.

May 1 - Basic principles
May 8 - The turning stroke
May 15 - The falling strokes
May 29 - Eternity
